Background
Every region develops its own completely autonomous style, especially with regard to rhythm and harmony in folk music and in folk to folk, cross their own melodic and harmonious borders, and mix with other musical cultures.
The original motives for my site-specific installation of the workspace Fellow Countrymen Fellows involved the interpretation of this genre of music and the depiction of traded forms in a different way – spatially as well.
Location
The folk song is always an expression of a certain situation in life. Folk songs deal with almost every area of life: love, drinking, childhood, working life, dancing, military, student unions, home. They are often identified with one location: the beer garden.
A surreal beer garden will be built for the exhibition preview; it will remain closed for this phase. In the period following, the song (Friedrich W. Möller: „The Happy Wanderer“) will be acoustically arranged and recorded. It is necessary for the installation that I sing the song in front of others, without a higher request. I would like to learn the text while singing.
At the opening at the and of the two weeks of work the word LANDSCAPE will be engraved in capitals into the wall in front of the beer garden within the project space. A beer garden will be created, enclosed in the room and standing in front of a ‚landscape‘ …
The chosen song participates in the space after various sound effects have created a fictive context. A song as a projection surface for the nostalgic, identity, humor.
I would like the installation to enable the viewer a consideration of the theme „Germany in me“: as I see it, this instance of beer garden as a staged space has numerous points of contact with the history of Germany.
