vektor_weiss (vector_white) / 2004

Intermedial spatial installation / Gallery of the Academy of Fine Arts, Leipzig (HGB)

„vektor_weiss“ is a work made in the framework of a project started in 2002 „wort_zeit_körper“ (word_time_body) and is based on interdisciplinary, theoretical research on concentration and mental processes hypertectural structures and perception today.

The spatial installation „vektor_weiss“ joins a 16-channel sound installation and 80 paper works, that can be perceived as separate as well as contextually joined. The 16-channel sound installation represents a speech perception field: Loudspeakers are suspended in a 10 by 10 metres sound field just above the heads of the visitors. This field is visually accompanied by the paper works which are ordered next to one another, similar to an illustrated book, resulting in a horizon, bringing the various layers of perception of words and images together both conceptually and spatially.

The starting point for the works were sheets of newspaper. These were processed daily, so that the headlines and image descriptions which are of orientation to the reader, were blackened and other individual words within the articles were highlighted red and thus linked together. New contexts are created. The blackened headlines are in fragmented layout, poetically condensed, and moreover audible in the sound installation.
