Video

The documentary film „Zeitgeist“ from  HYPERLINK „http://www.infokrieg.tv/“www.infokrieg.tv – the alternative news source – was the background of the video with the title „11012009“. In this documentary film, which is banned for commercial purposes, the connections of the world’s finance capitals are shown from a historical point of view. I observe the viewer of this film and record her reactions towards the images and information with a video camera. During the recording the daylight wanes and the light reflexes from the screen can be seen more and more clearly on the face of the viewer. The viewer melts quasi with the image on the television. We see clips from the agitated back and forth movement of the viewer’s eyes with the constant changing colour and light of the film clips.

We do not see the film „Zeitgeist“, we can only hear the commentator and the original film soundtrack. The motive for this video on the theme of ‚evil‘ was the question whether there is a possible ‚aesthetic of evil‘ and in this context other questions such as: What feelings are associated with evil, how does it become visible, when does it become perceivable? What role does memory play in terms of our perception? Is it enough to show scenes of evil, cultural contexts, the moments of anxiety…., in order to see evil? Is evil a part of human being? Is it always the opposite of good? Who decided what is good and evil? What makes us able to endure evil? Alexander Kluge said once about Einar Schleef: „only when one (Schleef) repeats the horror, constantly going through it, can one go around it“. Where does this fascination lie? Can we also speak from nostalgia? It was for example ascertained that people today have a certain hunger for violence. More and more documentary films are about themes such as “police states“, “economical collapse“, “the finance system blackmails the world“, “9/11“ or “religions“, that explain to the seemingly uninformed public. Once wide spread knowledge about the connections is surpassed by another new research. How do we react to it? The video recording is seen as a study of evil and should be considered in further studies.
