In this video installation one is confronted with a singer who performs singing exercises. The exercises which are aimed at warming up the body and voice of the protagonist, preparing her for the perfect performance, question their elegant appearance through mime and gesture.
However as time goes by, a working atmosphere forms and the observer is faced with an intimate working situation, acting almost as a mirror or secret observer. Due to the life size projection every tension of the muscles can be seen. The work which is entailed in every perfect performance is thus highlighted.
Testimonies of urbanity are the traffic, infrastructure, the most diverse people and the everlasting flood of sensations. There is no standstill, only movement, images and noise.
These things penetrate even the deepest corners of the city, and nonetheless under the earth, that has already since a long time been included in the urban happenings of our time. The canalisation is also situated there underneath, it is an echo of the city. Not only because of its function as sewage and waste water disposal but equally because the sounds penetrate the pipe system.
These sounds are sent from one end of the over ground street tracing canal network to the other. Everything that takes place above can be heard underneath in a distorted form, compressed into various frequencies by the pipes. And so a type of music of the city is formed. A humongous interactive organ. Depending of the constellation of the piping, each place yields a different keynote.
